Mutilated bodies of two missing youths found in Manipur
Security forces recovered the bodies of two Kuki youths from a banana farm, leading to clashes between protesters and police.
The mutilated bodies of two youths, who went missing from Taphou Kuki village in Manipur's Kangpokpi district, were found in a hilly area of Senapati on Sunday, according to the Hindustan Times. The deceased have been identified as T Chongloi and Paoginlal Hangsing.
The bodies were discovered stuffed in gunny bags within a banana farm during a joint search operation. The operation involved the Manipur Police, CoBRA, CRPF, Assam Rifles, and RAF in the area east of NH-2 along SP Road.
Following the discovery, protesters in the Kangpokpi district headquarters clashed with security forces. Officials stated that security personnel used tear gas and batons to disperse the crowd, and some agitators reportedly sustained injuries.
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) alleged the youths were abducted and killed by Naga militants. The group demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and the transfer of Taphou Kuki village's jurisdiction to the Kangpokpi SP.
Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen condemned the killings, stating that what began with hopes of a safe return ended in tragedy. She called for a thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice.
On Saturday, police reported that three people from the Kuki community died during a clash between armed groups in Noney district.
