Arjuna directs officials to step up Villivakkam monsoon preparedness
Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna instructed officials to ready pumps and equipment ahead of predicted heavy rains between November 15 and December 10.
Public Works and Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna has directed officials to increase monsoon preparedness in Villivakkam, particularly in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging, according to the Deccan Chronicle.
During a review meeting on Saturday at the Thanthai Periyar Community Hall in Thirumangalam, Arjuna told various departments to ensure pumps, vehicles, and equipment are ready to clear rainwater from vulnerable locations.
The minister stressed the need to prevent electrocution by raising low-lying electrical distribution boxes, relocating damaged ones, and laying cables underground where necessary.
Officials were also instructed to expedite the removal of dangerous tree branches and clear fallen trees without delay. Arjuna later handed over tree-cutting equipment and telescopic tree-pruning machines to workers.
Arjuna called for the faster completion of development works and immediate action on resident petitions, suggesting each department designate an officer to resolve public grievances.
The minister noted that some Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board residents have not received allotment orders, affecting their access to ration cards. He asked officials to resolve this and ensure preparedness in both Urban Habitat Development Board and Housing Board colonies.
