Truck driver asked if he was Bangladeshi at West Bengal toll plaza
Rafikul Khan allegedly faced questioning regarding his nationality after requesting a toll plaza employee to speak in Bengali on October 26.
An Indian Muslim truck driver was allegedly asked if he was a Bangladeshi at the Shibpur toll plaza on National Highway 12 in Murshidabad district on October 26, according to Siasat.
Rafikul Khan, a driver from Narayanpur, was transporting bananas from Karimpur towards Siliguri when the incident occurred. Khan had stopped at the toll plaza to pay the toll.
The incident reportedly began when Khan requested the toll plaza employee to speak in Bengali. The employee allegedly asked Khan if he was from outside India or if he was a Bangladeshi.
Khan responded by questioning why he should speak in Hindi in West Bengal. He also told the employee to report the matter.
Khan stated that his vehicle had been standing there for half an hour and said he would go through Katai regardless of the toll.
