Akhilesh Yadav calls Ramlila Maidan Haldighati of democracy at INDIA rally

The Samajwadi Party chief accused the BJP of manipulating electoral rolls and predicted their removal from power in Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday addressed the INDIA bloc rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan, where he described the massive turnout as the "Haldighati of democracy". Yadav asserted that the gathering indicates impending political change and stated that the movement to protect democracy would begin in Uttar Pradesh.

The SP chief accused the BJP of manipulating electoral rolls and alleged that 1.27 lakh Hindu voters had been deleted in Uttar Pradesh. He claimed this deletion translates to a reduction of 31,000 votes in every assembly constituency. Yadav further alleged that the West Bengal assembly elections were looted through vote manipulation during a Special Intensive Revision of the rolls.

Yadav stated that the INDIA alliance would not stop, adding that the party was unable to form the government in 2022 due to "this very theft". He also remarked that those who came to power at the Centre through Uttar Pradesh would be ousted from the state.

Taking a dig at the BJP, Yadav said that those who once spoke of making India a 'Vishwaguru' are now busy manipulating electoral rolls. He also mocked claims of an unshakeable political position, suggesting the party should consider if there is any ground left to stand on.

Referring to recent MLC polls, Yadav said the people of Kashi had reduced the "double-engine" government to a "double zero". He predicted the BJP would face a decisive defeat in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
