Sanjay Singh slams ED action against Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan

The Aam Aadmi Party MP accused the central and Uttar Pradesh governments of weaponising agencies after Azam Khan was arrested following his bail.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Sunday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central and Uttar Pradesh governments regarding the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) action against senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan.

According to ANI, Singh termed the situation the "height of tyranny and oppression." He expressed concern that Khan was apprehended immediately after being granted relief by the judiciary.

Singh alleged that the authorities were weaponising central agencies without following legal due process. He questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi on whether the ED followed Supreme Court guidelines, which require arrest reasons to be disclosed and notices to be issued before questioning.

The AAP MP also accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of running a vendetta campaign against the veteran leader. Singh claimed that every time bail was granted, Khan was thrown back into prison.

The ED apprehended Mohammad Azam Khan on Saturday in connection with a money-laundering investigation involving the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust and Mohammad Ali Jauhar University.

Officials stated that a team from the ED's Lucknow zonal office reached Rampur district jail and apprehended Khan soon after he was released from the premises.
