IMD warns of heavy rain and cyclonic storm in India

A depression in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast on November 3.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across various regions. This weather activity is being influenced by the remnants of Cyclone Arnab and an active Western Disturbance.

A depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm. The IMD stated the system is expected to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur on the morning of November 3, with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph.

Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar director Manorama Mohanty said the department is monitoring the system. Under its influence, isolated extremely heavy rainfall is predicted for Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on November 2, and isolated very heavy rainfall for Rayalaseema on November 2 and 3.

Odisha is expected to see very heavy showers at isolated places on November 2, with isolated very heavy rainfall likely on November 3 and 4. Telangana may experience thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 70 kmph on November 1 and 2.

In the south, heavy rainfall is forecast for parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana on November 2 and 3. Kerala and Mahe may see rain from November 1 to November 4, while Coastal and North Interior Karnataka may receive rain on November 3.

Other regions including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya are also expected to receive heavy showers or thunderstorms. Meanwhile, Delhi is likely to have partly cloudy skies with stable weather conditions.
