Most parts of India likely to see above-normal temperatures in November

The India Meteorological Department predicts above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures across much of the country during the month.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday that above-normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of India in November. This excludes some regions along the Himalayan foothills, where normal to below-normal maximum temperatures are expected, according to reports by The Hindu and ThePrint.

The IMD also stated that above-normal minimum temperatures are expected over most of the country. However, many parts of central and eastern India are likely to see normal to below-normal minimum temperatures.

India is expected to witness 77 per cent of the Long Period Average (LPA) rainfall during the month. The LPA for the country in November, based on data from 1971 to 2020, is approximately 29.7 mm.

While below-normal rainfall is likely over most parts of the country, some areas in central, northwest, and Northeast India may receive normal to above-normal rainfall. South Peninsular India is also expected to experience 77 per cent of its LPA, which is around 118.7 mm.

The IMD attributed these conditions to very strong El Nino conditions prevailing over the Equatorial Pacific Ocean. The latest Monsoon Mission Coupled Forecast System and other global climate model forecasts indicate these conditions are likely to continue during November-December.
