Remand prisoner escapes from police custody in Coimbatore
Four police officers have been suspended following the escape of a convict from the Coimbatore Central Prison entrance.
A 25-year-old remand prisoner, identified as Raghavan, escaped from police custody near the Coimbatore Central Prison entrance in the early hours of Saturday, according to the Deccan Chronicle.
The incident occurred at approximately 12.40 am as police were escorting Raghavan to the prison complex following a Friday night appearance before a Fast Track Court.
Police stated that Raghavan, a theft and robbery convict, pushed the escorting officers away after his handcuffs were removed for admission procedures between the prison's two gates.
This event follows two other escapes by the same man within a 24-hour period, including an earlier flight from the Annur police station on October 30.
The Coimbatore city police and other security forces have started a search operation for the fugitive, while four officers responsible for his security have been suspended for negligence.
AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami criticised the TVK administration, stating that prison breaks have become a "never-ending television serial."
