Amit Shah sets December 2029 deadline for drug-free India
The Union Home Minister described a drug-free nation as essential to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah called for a nationwide campaign to eliminate drug abuse by December 31, 2029, on Saturday. Speaking at the 'Run for Unity' event in New Delhi, Shah said a drug-free India is necessary to build the developed nation envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shah stated that as of March 31 this year, the country had moved beyond the shadow of Naxalism. He said the creation of a 'Nasha-mukt Bharat' would be the starting point for achieving the 'Viksit Bharat' vision.
The Home Minister placed the proposed anti-drug campaign alongside other milestones achieved during the Modi government. These include the abrogation of Article 370, the eradication of Naxalism, and the implementation of a unified tax system.
Shah said the creation of a drug-free India would stand out as the most consequential achievement for the youth and the future of the nation. He made these remarks during National Unity Day celebrations marking the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Paying tribute to Patel, Shah said the leader achieved the unification of India in 1,218 days after Independence. He described Patel as the architect of the map of an 'Akhand Bharat' who integrated numerous princely states into a unified political entity.
