Palaniswami criticises TVK-led government over Coimbatore convict escape

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami likened the escape of a convict from police custody in Coimbatore to a television serial.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday criticised the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government following the escape of a convict from police custody in Coimbatore. According to The Hindu, the incident occurred before the individual could be lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.

In a social media post, Palaniswami said the escape could be added to a souvenir of the government's achievements, alongside issues such as drug smuggling, inflation, power supply disruptions, public debt, and the deterioration of law and order.

Palaniswami questioned why such escapes are occurring frequently and asked how people could have confidence in a government unable to guard its prisons. The escape happened despite news reports regarding a warning issued to prison officials by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

Separately, AMMK founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran criticised the State power utility regarding power supply disruptions at the Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai. The disruptions occurred during a visit by Palaniswami and Vice-President C.P.

Radhakrishnan.

Dhinakaran stated the utility was functioning arbitrarily and called for administrative reforms from the Energy Department and the Chief Minister to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
