Twelve missing after landslide in Odisha's Ganjam district

Four people have died in rain-related incidents across Odisha following the influence of Cyclone Arnab.

At least 12 people are missing after a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall struck Gidipabali village in the Bhanjanagar block of Ganjam district on Friday, according to reports from The Indian Express and Scroll.

The landslide occurred at a hilltop hamlet on the Ganjam-Kandhamal border. Odisha Special Relief Commissioner Rajesh Patil said one person has been rescued, while search operations continue to locate the others.

More than 170 personnel from the NDRF, ODRAF, fire services, and the Special Operation Group of the Odisha Police are engaged in the search. Rescuers have faced challenges including boulders and muddy terrain.

Separately, three members of a family, including a baby, died in a landslide at Dangesi village in Kandhamal district's Raikia block. Another death was reported in Gajapati district due to rain-related incidents.

In Ganjam, more than 1.05 lakh people have been affected by floods. Nearly 40,000 people are taking shelter in 367 relief camps across the district as water levels in the Rushikulya river begin to recede.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast the formation of another cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify and reach the Andhra Pradesh coast around the evening of November 2, 2026.
