Naidu orders high alert as new cyclone threatens Andhra Pradesh
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to prepare for relief and rescue operations as a severe cyclonic storm approaches.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for a high alert in Andhra Pradesh as a new cyclone threatens the coast. On Sunday, Naidu told officials to get ready for rescue and relief work, noting that a severe cyclonic storm is expected to hit the coast near Bapatla on the morning of November 3.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that a depression in the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm. This system is predicted to cross the coast between Nellore and Narsapur, or near Bapatla, with wind speeds of 100 to 110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph.
Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast for November 2, 3 and 4. In Eluru, Krishna, NTR, West Godavari, Guntur and Bapatla, rainfall levels are expected to be significant on November 3. Officials warned that an inflow of approximately 32,500 cusecs is anticipated at Budameru.
Reviewing restoration work following Cyclone Arnab, Naidu directed officials to monitor the depression every six hours using satellite imagery and Doppler radars. He also requested that telecom operators take precautions to prevent signal disruptions and asked for clear timelines regarding power restoration.
Regarding previous damage from Cyclone Arnab, the Chief Minister ordered compensation of ₹54,000 per hectare for 1,293 hectares of coconut plantations and ₹1,500 for each uprooted coconut tree. Officials reported that approximately 1.95 lakh coconut trees were damaged.
