BMTC bus catches fire near St John’s Hospital in Koramangala
All passengers escaped unhurt after a bus belonging to Depot 15 caught fire on Saturday morning in Bengaluru.
A BMTC bus caught fire near St John’s Hospital at the Koramangala Checkpost on Saturday morning, according to The Hindu.
The incident occurred around 9.15 a.m. on October 31. The bus, which belongs to Depot 15 and operates on route 344C/2, was travelling near the hospital when the fire broke out.
The driver noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and stopped it immediately, allowing all passengers to be evacuated safely. The driver and conductor used a fire extinguisher to try and douse the flames before alerting the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
Fire personnel arrived at the spot and extinguished the blaze. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) stated that no passengers were injured in the incident.
A preliminary inspection by the BMTC Mechanical Engineering Department indicated that an electrical short circuit could have triggered the fire, though the exact cause is not yet established.
BMTC has contacted the bus manufacturer for a joint inspection with its engineers to check for technical defects. The Corporation said it will take corrective and preventive measures based on the inspection report.
