Villagers carry pregnant woman 3 km on stretcher in Andhra Pradesh

Killo Neelima was transported through hills on a makeshift stretcher after an ambulance could not reach her village due to lack of roads.

Villagers in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitarama Raju district carried a pregnant woman on a makeshift stretcher for nearly three kilometres on Friday. According to The Pioneer, the woman, Killo Neelima, lives in Talaripadu village in Anantagiri mandal.

Neelima developed severe labour pains early on Friday. Her family attempted to call for an ambulance through the 108 emergency service, but the vehicle could not reach the village because there is no motorable road.

Villagers used wooden poles and cloth to create a makeshift stretcher to transport Neelima. They carried her along a narrow, rocky path through the hills for approximately three kilometres.

The group eventually reached a nearby village where they arranged a private auto to take her to the Lungaparti government hospital for treatment.

Opposition parties have criticised the state government regarding the incident. They questioned claims of development and highlighted infrastructure gaps in tribal areas, calling for better road connectivity and access to healthcare facilities.
