Manipur: COCOMI holds rally in Imphal to demand scrapping of SoO agreement
Participants from various communities marched through Imphal to call for the safe return of internally displaced persons to their homes.
A large number of people from different communities, including residents from the hills and the valley, held a rally in Imphal on October 31. The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) organised the demonstration to demand the scrapping of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.
The protesters marched through the streets of Imphal and raised slogans. They urged authorities to ensure the safe return and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
In a separate development, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited Sinai Camp in Khongbal Kuki village, Kangpokpi district, on Sunday. He was accompanied by MLA Thokchom Radheshyam Singh and interacted with security personnel.
The visit followed a joint operation at the Sinai Camp, which is a designated SoO camp for the Kuki National Organisation (KNO)/Kuki National Army (KNA) and KNO/Kuki Liberation Army (KLA). Security forces, including the Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and CRPF, raided the camp.
Manipur Police stated that 18 people were detained for verification. On Saturday, 17 individuals were arrested for allegedly using false identities to impersonate registered SoO cadres, with eight claiming KNA affiliation and nine claiming KLA affiliation.
Security forces seized 24 firearms, 38 magazines, ammunition, explosives, and wireless communication equipment from the camp during the operation.
