Bengaluru man says family spends up to Rs 80,000 monthly on food

A social media user shared that his household of four spends between Rs 60,000 and Rs 80,000 on groceries.

A Bengaluru-based social media user, Ramsri Goutham Golla, stated that his family of four spends between Rs 60,000 and Rs 80,000 every month on food and groceries, according to a Times of India report.

Golla, whose household includes two adults and two young children, noted that they prepare all meals at home and consume meat twice a week. He expressed frustration over the high costs while asking how others manage their expenses.

To explain the high expenditure, Golla provided a breakdown of certain items. He said eggs cost about Rs 3,000 a month, milk costs between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000, and meat costs approximately Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 for twice-weekly purchases.

Other costs mentioned by Golla include Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 for dosa and idli batter, alongside expenses for rice, vegetables, fruits, and cooking oil. He noted that rice costs around Rs 80 per kg and fruits can cost between Rs 200 and Rs 400 per kg.

The post sparked a debate among social media users. While some agreed that food prices are rising, others suggested the amount was high. One user claimed a family of four in Bengaluru could manage kitchen costs within Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 even with premium products.
