Tamil Nadu CM orders suspension of official after Theni jailbreak
Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay suspended a deputy jail superintendent and transferred prison staff following the escape of 17 prisoners in Theni district.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Saturday ordered the suspension of a deputy jail superintendent and the transfer of prison staff. This action follows a jailbreak in Theni district late on Monday.
The incident involved 17 prisoners, all of whom were undertrials, escaping a prison after staging a fake medical emergency and overpowering guards. While most prisoners were captured, two remain at large.
According to a PTI report, the Chief Minister ordered the immediate suspension of N Ramalingam, the deputy jail superintendent in-charge of Thekkampatti sub-jail. The suspension is for dereliction of duty.
The state government has also ordered a reshuffle of top prison administrators across Tamil Nadu. These measures were taken in response to security lapses during the escape.
