ABVP holds Save Democracy march in Patna
Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad marched in Bihar to protest against alleged attempts to undermine democratic institutions.
Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest march in Patna on Friday, October 30, 2026, under the campaign ‘Loktantra Bachao Arajakta Hatao’. According to The Hindu, the protesters gathered at Kargil Chowk to demonstrate against what they described as efforts to weaken democratic institutions.
The march, led by ABVP National Secretary Abhay Pratap Singh and Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) President Yash Dabas, moved from Kargil Chowk towards Dak Bungalow Chauraha. Participants, including students and activists from north and south Bihar, crossed police barricades during the procession despite continuous rainfall.
Addressing the gathering, Abhay Pratap Singh stated that India is a democratic nation where governments are decided by votes rather than street demonstrations. He said that anarchy intended to change governments, inspired by developments in Nepal and Bangladesh, is unacceptable.
Singh also commented on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, noting it is a regular administrative process. He suggested that any allegations of irregularities should be presented to constitutional forums with evidence.
The National Secretary further claimed that questioning the credibility of the Supreme Court and the Election Commission of India for political reasons goes against democratic principles.
Yash Dabas said the march showed that the energy of Indian youth would be directed toward nation-building and social harmony. The ABVP called on the country's youth to protect constitutional institutions and oppose mobocracy through democratic means.
