Punjab: Father of slain activist urges youth to reject drugs
Bhim Singh requested Punjab's youth to take a pledge against drug use during his son's cremation on Diwali.
The post-mortem examination of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota was completed at PGIMER Chandigarh on Saturday, according to The Times of India. Jhota, who was shot dead in Mansa, was an activist known for leading campaigns against the drug menace in the state.
Following the autopsy, Jhota's father, Bhim Singh, made an emotional appeal to the youth of Punjab. He urged young people to take a solemn pledge this Diwali to renounce drugs and eradicate them from the state, according to The News Mill.
Bhim Singh stated that the cremation would be performed in Mansa on Diwali between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM. He said the timing was intended to encourage the youth to unite and pay tribute to his son's sacrifice.
Despite the completion of the autopsy, Bhim Singh refused to end his indefinite fast. He is demanding the transfer of Mansa SSP Vaibhav Chaudhary, The Times of India reported.
The post-mortem was conducted following an agreement between the state government and the Parvinder Singh Jhota Insaf Committee. The government previously agreed to provide Rs 2 crore compensation and a government job to Jhota's wife, Manpreet Kaur, as reported by the Indian Express.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has re-registered the murder case and launched an investigation into the killing. The CBI team supervised the handover of the body to the family after the autopsy.
