Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis arrived in a Nagpur village on Saturday to spend the festival with farming families.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Saturday that state ministers have decided to spend the Diwali festival in rural areas with farmers facing a severe drought. According to ANI, the initiative is intended to support the morale of farmers and demonstrate government solidarity during the crisis.
Fadnavis visited Lohari Sawanga village in Nagpur on Saturday night, where he stayed at the home of farmer Rambhau Balpande. The Chief Minister joined villagers for prayers at the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj temple before having a traditional meal with the Balpande family.
The Chief Minister noted that while there is no instant fix for drought conditions, the government will offer all possible help. He stated that interacting with villagers and celebrating together would help keep their spirits high as they face agricultural challenges.
During a gathering at the gram panchayat, Fadnavis spoke with approximately 100 villagers regarding irrigation, crop conditions, and local issues. He assured them that the state would provide financial assistance and welfare measures to manage the crisis.
On October 27, Fadnavis had directed officials to transfer an advance drought relief of Rs 5,000 to the bank accounts of about 1.50 crore farmers. The state government has allocated Rs 7,500 crore for this purpose and instructed that no deductions be made by banks from these payments.
