Maharashtra CM celebrates Diwali with Lohari Sawanga farmers
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Nagpur district to discuss drought issues and announced borewell permissions for fruit-bearing trees.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis celebrated Diwali with farmers in Lohari Sawanga village in Nagpur district on Sunday. During his visit, Fadnavis interacted with local elected representatives and farmers to discuss various agricultural concerns.
According to ANI, the Chief Minister announced that the government has permitted farmers to use borewells until December 15 to protect fruit-bearing trees. He noted that a lack of water in the horticulture sector risks killing trees that take seven to twelve years to reach full capacity.
Fadnavis also mentioned plans to set up a large-scale processing unit for sweet limes and oranges via the MIHAN project in Nagpur. This initiative aims to address international export challenges that have impacted farmer incomes in the Katol and Narkhed areas, as reported by The News Mill.
The Chief Minister stated that the drought has caused significant losses and led to shortages of drinking water, irrigation, and veterinary healthcare. He said the government would take necessary action to address the issues raised by farmers and sarpanches.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the gesture, stating on X that the visit reflects the compassion and commitment of the NDA government toward farmer welfare in Maharashtra. Fadnavis had stayed at the residence of farmers Rambhau Balpande and Arunabai Balpande during his visit.
