Four dead and 120 injured in Egypt train collision

A passenger train derailed in the Al-Ayyat district after hitting the rear of another service on Sunday.

At least four people died and 120 others were injured after a passenger train collided with another train in Egypt's Giza province on Sunday, according to reports from the Times of India and WION.

The accident occurred in the Al-Ayyat district, located on the outskirts of Cairo. A northbound train travelling from Giza to Fayoum struck the rear of a service running from Cairo to Aswan, causing the train to derail.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health dispatched 52 ambulances to the site to transport the injured to two regional hospitals. Emergency response teams and cranes were deployed to remove the wreckage from the tracks.

The Egyptian railway authority stated that work is underway to clear the site and restore normal train services. Authorities have also opened an investigation to find the cause of the collision.

The Al-Ayyat area has seen previous rail accidents, including a collision between two freight trains in September last year that injured a driver and his assistant.
