Delhi markets see heavy rush for last-minute Diwali shopping

Shoppers in the national capital visited various markets on Saturday to purchase flowers, lights, and decorative items for the festival.

Shoppers thronged several markets across New Delhi on Saturday for last-minute Diwali purchases, according to reports by Hindustan Times and ThePrint. The festive rush was visible in areas including Mehrauli, Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Sadar Bazaar, and Karol Bagh.

At Mehrauli's wholesale flower market, buyers from Delhi and neighbouring areas sought marigolds, rose petals, and buds. One shopkeeper noted that the morning rush was so heavy there was hardly space to stand. A customer from Gurugram, Narayan Singh, said the market offered a variety of flowers for Diwali puja at lower rates than regular markets.

In Sarojini Nagar, customers visited stalls for clothes, accessories, and festive essentials. Meanwhile, shoppers in Lajpat Nagar purchased decorative products and household items. A shopkeeper named Ankit said the rush for home items increased on Saturday.

Sadar Bazaar, a major wholesale hub, saw demand for decorative lights, diyas, and artificial flowers. In Karol Bagh, shops selling wall hangings and lights also experienced a large crowd. The heavy footfall and roadside vendors contributed to traffic congestion on roads adjacent to several markets.
