The building collapsed around 9.48 am on November 5 while construction work was underway. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) stated that no building plan had been sanctioned for the structure and that the collapse occurred while the roof slab was being laid on the third floor.

The deceased have been identified as Sanjeet Kumar, Kishori Sah, Pankaj Sharma, Vipin Ram, Shantu, Dinesh Sah, and Luchhuman Mukhiya. Police said four of the victims were residents of Bihar, while Vipin Ram lived in Mandawali in Delhi.

The building owner, Saimullah, also known as Ayub, and three contractors, Siraj, Tajuddin, and Furkan, have been arrested. The contractors were apprehended from Sirohi in Faridabad, according to reports.

An FIR was registered at Hauz Qazi police station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and negligent conduct regarding the repair or pulling down of buildings. Rescue personnel are continuing the search for any other possible victims.
