Manish Pandey returns to Karnataka squad for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
The Karnataka State Cricket Association announced a 15-member squad for the first three matches of the domestic T20 competition.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) announced its 15-member squad for the first three matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Friday, according to the Deccan Herald. Former captain Manish Pandey has returned to the state team for the first time in nearly two years.
Chief selector Amit Verma said the decision to include Pandey was made after discussions regarding Mayank Agarwal, who was slightly short on runs. Verma noted that with three players over 35 years old, including Karun Nair and Agarwal, the selectors had to let one go.
The selection committee also omitted former captain Mayank Agarwal and wrist-spinner Shreyas Gopal. Verma explained that leg-spinner Pravin Dubey was included as the selectors believed he would provide extra value with the bat down the order.
Smaran R, who recently completed national duty in New Zealand, will continue to lead the team as captain. Luvnith Sisodiya, who last played for Karnataka in this tournament in 2022, will share wicketkeeping duties with Shrijith KL.
The Karnataka pace attack includes Vyshak Vijaykumar, Vidwath Kaverappa, Abhilash Shetty, and all-rounder Manvanth Kumar. The spin group consists of Ritesh Bhatkal, Shikhar Shetty, and Pravin Dubey.
Karnataka is scheduled to begin its campaign against Bengal on November 14 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
