Owaisi says Abdul in UP will become leader, not just carpet spreader
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi cited a US Senate win to argue for stronger Muslim political representation in Uttar Pradesh.
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said on Wednesday that Muslims in Uttar Pradesh will no longer be treated as mere vote banks but will emerge as lawmakers. According to reports from Siasat and ANI, Owaisi cited the victory of Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate race during the US midterm elections to make his point.
Owaisi stated that while the BJP previously mocked individuals by saying 'Abdul fixes punctures' and the Samajwadi Party suggested 'Abdul will spread the carpets', the Michigan result shows democratic potential. He said that in a democracy, an 'Abdul' became a senator and that in Uttar Pradesh, an 'Abdul' will become an MLA instead of bowing down to anyone.
The Hyderabad MP also criticised the Union government's position before the Delhi High Court regarding the removal of a century-old mosque near Krishi Bhawan. Siasat reported that the Centre told the court that having a permanent religious structure within a government office complex was incompatible with the secular character of government property.
Owaisi argued the mosque is a registered Waqf property and part of the country's cultural heritage. He noted the mosque existed before Delhi became the capital and that Lutyens’ Delhi was developed around it. He claimed the government's stance was not secular, noting that the Central Vista project had previously used religious rituals for its inauguration.
Addressing the Samajwadi Party, Owaisi said that while the decisions of Akhilesh Yadav are internal matters, the AIMIM is committed to fielding candidates. He expressed confidence that his party's candidates would be elected to establish distinct leadership for minorities and weaker sections of society.
