Schools and colleges closed in several districts due to Cyclone Murasu

Educational institutions in parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha will remain closed as heavy rainfall is expected.

District administrations in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have ordered the closure of schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres due to the impact of Cyclone Murasu, according to Prabhat Khabar.

In Tamil Nadu, holidays have been declared for all schools and colleges in Chennai and Tiruvallur on 2 November 2026. The decision follows fears of heavy rainfall and waterlogging in these districts.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Eluru district administration has closed schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, according to the Deccan Chronicle. The District Education Officer (DEO) announced the holiday in view of the expected cyclone impact.

Odisha has also seen orders for the closure of educational institutions and Anganwadi centres from 2 November to 4 November 2026. Authorities in the state have prepared to use these institutions for relief and rescue operations if required.

The Chennai Meteorological Centre reported that the system, which began as a depression over the southern Andaman Sea, was expected to intensify into a cyclone on 1 November. The cyclone is projected to move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast by the evening of 2 November.

While heavy rain is forecast for parts of Tamil Nadu, including Tiruvallur, the Chennai Meteorological Centre expects comparatively limited rainfall across much of the state. Educational institutions in Bihar and Jharkhand remain open as they face no direct threat from the cyclone.
