Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu reviews Cyclone Murusu preparedness

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to remain vigilant as moderate to heavy rainfall is predicted for several districts.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reviewed preparations for Cyclone Murusu with district collectors and senior officials at the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) Centre on Monday, according to ANI. The Chief Minister advised the administration to stay alert because South Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema districts are expected to see moderate to heavy rainfall.

Naidu stated that the cyclone's impact on the Andhra Pradesh coast is likely to be relatively limited. He noted that wind speeds and rainfall intensity are expected to be lower than those seen during Cyclone Arnab.

Officials told the Chief Minister that Palnadu district could receive the highest rainfall of approximately 30 cm, while Prakasam may see 24 cm and Markapuram 19 cm. Krishna, Guntur, Eluru, and Nellore are expected to receive up to 9 cm of rainfall.

To manage power, officials have dispatched 31,000 electricity poles from Srikakulam to Krishna district. They estimated that 8,000 poles in South Coastal and Rayalaseema districts could be affected by winds, and 1,000 personnel are arriving from Chennai to assist with restoration in various districts, including Nellore and Prakasam.

The Chief Minister directed officials to use the rainfall to fill tanks and reservoirs in Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, and Markapuram to address rainfall deficits. He also ordered the safety of 6,800 tanks across six districts to be monitored and instructed that post-cyclone restoration works be finished within 48 hours.
