Government restores telecom services in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha after Cyclone Arnab

The Department of Telecommunications is working with service providers to fix network disruptions caused by heavy rainfall and flash floods.

The government is working to restore telecom networks and monitor communication services in areas hit by Cyclone Arnab, according to Telangana Today. The cyclone hit the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, causing disruptions through heavy rainfall, flash floods, fallen trees, and power infrastructure issues.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is coordinating with Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) to carry out restoration work. The Ministry of Communications stated that progress has been made in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, specifically regarding optical fibre connectivity and power supply issues.

In Andhra Pradesh, telecom network availability has reached 99.18 per cent. In Odisha, network situations in the Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kandhamal districts are gradually improving as rainfall eases and floodwaters recede.

To support relief activities, emergency arrangements such as COW deployments and Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) are being maintained. ICR allows mobile subscribers to connect to another operator's network within the same region if their own provider has no coverage.

The ministry said that all TSPs are prioritising the repair of remaining affected sites to normalise services and provide uninterrupted connectivity for the public.
