Cyclone Murasu delays winter onset in West Bengal
Temperatures are expected to drop ahead of Kali Puja on November 8 after the cyclone's indirect effects caused warmer weather.
The onset of winter in West Bengal has been delayed due to the indirect impact of Cyclone Murasu, according to The Hawk on Tuesday.
The meteorological department stated that temperatures across the state have remained higher than normal. However, weather conditions are expected to improve from Thursday, November 5, with temperatures likely to fall before Kali Puja on November 8.
While the cyclone made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast and triggered red alerts for coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu, West Bengal is unlikely to face any direct impact. The state may see scattered rainfall on Tuesday, with the sky remaining partly cloudy in all districts.
In north Bengal, light rain is possible in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar, while the other three districts may stay dry. In south Bengal, isolated light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, and Purulia.
The weather department forecast mainly dry conditions from Wednesday to Saturday as rainfall diminishes. As cloud cover clears, night temperatures are expected to decrease progressively.
On Monday, Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 31.04 degrees Celsius, slightly above the normal 31 degrees. The minimum temperature was 25.02 degrees Celsius, which was 2.03 degrees above the normal level.
