Delhi Police ACP suspended after joining protest against officer transfers
Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashistha was suspended by the Ministry of Home Affairs for participating in a demonstration at the headquarters.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashistha has been suspended by the Ministry of Home Affairs after joining a protest by Delhi Police personnel outside the force's headquarters on Monday, according to The Federal and Moneycontrol.
The suspension follows Vashistha's participation in an agitation against the transfer of himself and Inspector Arun Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shahdara police station. The Ministry termed his address and agitation a violation of the force's discipline.
The protest, which involved approximately 150 personnel including women officers, was held to demand the reinstatement of the two officers to their previous postings. Protesting staff held placards and posters, and a delegation met Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar to submit five demands, including the registration of FIRs against lawyers involved in hooliganism.
The transfers of Vashistha and Kumar followed a confrontation at the Shahdara police station on October 23, where advocate Lalit Bansal allegedly sustained a serious head injury during a scuffle. Lawyers subsequently launched an indefinite strike, which was called off on October 28.
On October 28, Vashistha, who was the sub-divisional police officer in Gandhi Nagar, was transferred to the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC), while Kumar was moved to the security unit. Following the protest, Commissioner Anurag Kumar held a Sampark Sabha to interact with the personnel and address their grievances.
