Jammu darbar resumes as Omar Abdullah calls for faster project execution
Chief minister Omar Abdullah inspected the civil secretariat and inaugurated infrastructure works worth Rs 189 lakh in Jammu on Monday.
Chief minister Omar Abdullah attended the official resumption of the traditional biannual darbar move at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu on Monday. According to the Hindustan Times, Abdullah was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour by a contingent of the Jammu and Kashmir Police before attending to official business.
During a review meeting at the secretariat, the chief minister instructed officials to accelerate ongoing development works and maintain stocks of essential commodities, especially in remote and snow-bound areas. He also directed newly appointed ministers to conduct department-level reviews and told officials to strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms.
Abdullah inaugurated infrastructure works worth Rs 189 lakh at the Jammu civil secretariat. This included a new pre-fabricated office accommodation block costing Rs 158.09 lakh and a renovated reception hall completed at a cost of Rs 31.10 lakh.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said at the legislative assembly chamber that the revival of the darbar move was a government decision taken in deference to public sentiment. The 154-year-old practice, introduced in 1872, was halted in 2021 and has been revived by the current government.
The chief minister also visited the fire-ravaged Shiv Market near the Jammu railway station to assess damage from a blaze that broke out late Sunday. The fire engulfed at least 40 shops, destroying property worth crores.
