Cyclone Murasu to bring heavy rain to Karnataka, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh

The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for several districts as the cyclone approaches the south Andhra Pradesh coast.

Cyclone Murasu is expected to bring heavy rains to south interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, parts of Malnad and coastal districts until November 6, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A yellow alert has been issued for Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Chikkaballapur, Kolar and Bengaluru, Deccan Herald reported.

In Odisha, the IMD has issued an orange warning for five southern districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations on November 3 and 4. While the cyclone is not expected to make direct landfall in Odisha, its indirect impact may trigger widespread rain and thunderstorms as it moves towards the south Andhra Pradesh coast, according to the Deccan Chronicle.

The cyclone is likely to cross the coast between Nellore and Narasapur by the morning of November 3, with wind speeds reaching 100-110 kmph and gusts up to 120 kmph. In Palnadu district, Collector Kritika Shukla has placed the administration on high alert to prevent loss of life or property, directing officials to prepare for the cyclone's impact on November 2 and 3, according to The Hindu.

In Karnataka, a lightning strike in Manvi taluk of Raichur district on Monday killed a 55-year-old farmer named Prabhanna and injured three women. The injured, identified as Mariyamma, Latha and Jyothamma, were taken to Manvi government hospital after being struck while working at a farm.
