BSF Tripura Frontier opens Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Fatikchera

The new facility aims to provide quality generic medicines at 50 to 90 per cent lower prices for border residents.

The Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier inaugurated a Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK) at Fatikchera in West Tripura on Monday, according to ANI. Inspector General of BSF Tripura Frontier Princee Rani opened the centre in the presence of senior officers, medical professionals, and border population representatives.

The facility was established through a tripartite agreement between the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), SWADHIN Trust, and the BSF. It operates under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India.

The Kendra is intended to serve the civilian population in border areas, as well as serving and retired BSF personnel and their families. Located at the entrance of the BSF campus, it provides access to medicines for chronic ailments, surgical products, nutraceuticals, and sanitary napkins for Rs 1 per pad.

Princee Rani told ANI that the main objective is to provide generic medicines at minimal rates, noting that prices are 50 to 90 per cent lower than outside. She also stated that the centre provides sanitary napkins for Rs 1 to help maintain hygiene.

The initiative is part of the BSF Tripura Frontier's Border Outreach Programme, which includes medical camps, blood donation drives, and skill development. Rani appealed to everyone to take advantage of the centre to get medicines for their illnesses.
