Bihar: ASI allegedly kills one, injures three after firing at villagers
A police officer is absconding after allegedly opening fire on residents in Madhubani district on Monday night.
An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly opened fire on villagers in Balirajgarh village in Bihar's Madhubani district late on Monday night, killing one man and injuring three others, according to reports by The Hawk and The New Indian Express.
The deceased has been identified as Ashok Yadav. The three injured individuals are Dhanik Lal Yadav, Phulo Devi, and Vijendra Yadav. While the injured were initially taken to the Babubarhi Community Health Centre, they were referred to Sadar Hospital for further treatment.
Madhubani Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogendra Kumar said the ASI, Chandramohan Singh, was posted at a police picket near an excavation site. The SP stated that the officer had been visiting the village frequently due to an alleged illicit relationship with a local woman.
The incident occurred when the ASI allegedly entered the house of Vijay Yadav with inappropriate intentions. A neighbour, Phulo Devi, reportedly locked the door from the outside and raised an alarm, leading villagers to surround the house. The SP said the officer fired three to four rounds to protect himself after being cornered.
The accused ASI has been suspended with immediate effect and is currently absconding. Police are registering an FIR including murder charges and have formed two special teams to arrest him.
The incident has caused tension in the village. Additional security personnel have been deployed to the area to maintain order.
