Tejashwi Yadav accuses Nitish Kumar of stalling Bihar recruitment drive
The RJD leader claimed the change in government in January 2024 halted the promise of 10 lakh jobs for the youth.
Bihar Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday alleged that former chief minister Nitish Kumar derailed the state's recruitment process. According to a report by The Times of India, Yadav claimed that the collapse of the Mahagathbandhan government in January 2024 stalled a plan to provide 10 lakh jobs to the youth.
Yadav stated on X that the Mahagathbandhan government distributed 1,20,336 appointment letters at Patna's Gandhi Maidan on November 2, 2023. He alleged that after Nitish Kumar formed a new government with the NDA, several recruitment proposals were halted, including a public health cadre consisting of more than 1.3 lakh posts.
The RJD leader described the NDA government as "youth-oppressive". He noted that the RJD had supported Nitish Kumar in 2022 on the condition that the government would provide 10 lakh jobs. He said that following the formation of the Mahagathbandhan government, more than three lakh teachers were appointed through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).
Yadav also claimed that young people demanding jobs after the government change faced police action, including water cannons and lathi charges. He alleged that protesters were chased and beaten.
Nitish Kumar resigned as Bihar chief minister on January 28, 2024, ending the alliance between the RJD, Congress, and Left parties. He subsequently returned to the BJP-led NDA to take the oath as chief minister again.
