Three BSF personnel and local youth injured in Tripura clash

The confrontation in Sepahijala district occurred after villagers blocked a road to protest the alleged detention and assault of a local man.

Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and a local youth were injured during a clash between security forces and residents in Tripura's Sepahijala district on Monday, according to The Assam Tribune and The Hindu.

The incident took place at Ashabari under the Kalamchoura police station after villagers blocked the Ashabari-Rahimpur road near Natun Bazar. The protest was held to demand action following the alleged detention and assault of a local youth, Hefzur Rahman, during a vegetation-clearing operation.

The injured BSF personnel have been identified as Company Commander Rohit, driver Sunil Kumar, and personnel Manjit. They were travelling in a vehicle from the BSF's 49th Battalion when they encountered protesters who allegedly attacked them with sticks and bamboo.

The injured BSF personnel and the youth, who reportedly sustained a leg fracture, were shifted to Tripura Medical College and BRAM Hospital in Agartala for treatment. The Hindu reported that a security contingent of armed police and Tripura State Rifles personnel has been deployed to the area to restore normalcy.

Police have registered two separate cases at the local police station, one by each side. While senior BSF officials have visited the area to review the situation, no arrests have been made so far, and an investigation into the allegations is underway.
