American man sets Guinness World Record by watching 1,207 films in a year

Glenwood Hoskin Jr. averaged more than three movies a day at a Pennsylvania cinema to break the previous record.

Glenwood Hoskin Jr., a 60-year-old American from Pennsylvania, has set a Guinness World Record by watching 1,207 films at a cinema over a 12-month period, according to the Times of India.

The record attempt took place at the Regal Cinema in York Haven, Pennsylvania, between April 2024 and April 2025. Hoskin averaged 3.3 movies per day during this time.

His total surpassed the previous record of 777 films held by Zachariah Swope, who achieved the feat in 2023. Hoskin said he discovered the category while browsing the Guinness World Records website.

To manage the challenge, Hoskin used a Regal Unlimited membership costing approximately $28 a month. He also brought food from home to manage costs and walked between screenings for exercise.

Hoskin noted that he enjoyed the challenge and being out of the house. He said he preferred watching comedies in a theatre with an audience and found animated films easier to fit into his schedule.

The record-breaker planned to finish before winter to avoid driving in bad weather, but a mild winter allowed him to exceed his initial goals.
