MP CM announces Rs 1 crore aid and job for wife of officer killed in Dewas

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has promised financial assistance and a Sub-Inspector position to the family of Dilip Puri.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday announced Rs 1 crore in financial aid and a Sub-Inspector post for the wife of Dilip Puri. The Khategaon police station in-charge died in Dewas district after being run over by a truck allegedly transporting illicit liquor, according to reports from The Hawk and ANI.

The incident occurred late on Sunday night on the Harda-Nemawar highway. Puri was part of a police operation to intercept a vehicle suspected of smuggling alcohol from Harda towards Gujarat. During the attempt to stop the truck, the vehicle ran over the officer, who later died from his injuries.

Chief Minister Yadav stated on X that the news of the death was painful and that the state government would support the family. He has ordered an impartial investigation and directed Special Director General of Police Upendra Jain to supervise the probe at the scene.

Dewas Superintendent of Police Aditya Mishra said more than five teams were deployed to verify intelligence regarding the illegal transportation. Police have taken the driver into custody and impounded the truck as they investigate the smuggling network.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also paid tribute to the 2007-batch officer, describing his death as a supreme sacrifice. Following a post-mortem, Puri's remains were moved to his ancestral village in Dhar district.
