Telangana to introduce AI-enabled transactions in agricultural market yards
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said the technology will be used to monitor irregularities in transactions within the state's market yards.
The Telangana government plans to make the state's agricultural markets AI-enabled for the first time in India, according to The Hindu.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced the plan during a meeting with the agriculture and agricultural marketing departments in Hyderabad on Monday.
The Minister stated that the artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be used to check for irregularities in market yard transactions. Tenders for the introduction of this technology are expected to be called within one week.
The proposed digital system aims to track all farmer-related activities on a single platform, including crop quality assessment, digital bidding, weighing, and payments. The system will also record the entry and exit of farmers and include details on commission agents and traders for future cross-checking.
Nageswara Rao also suggested installing closed-circuit camera systems to monitor daily activities and godown maintenance. He requested that digital screens be provided so farmers can view prices from other parts of the country.
Regarding the Koheda integrated fruit market, the Minister instructed officials to complete the first phase by March next. He noted that delays in the tendering process would postpone the completion of the market.
