Stalin criticises Tamil Nadu economic growth under Vijay government
The DMK leader accused the administration of reversing progress as GST revenue growth fell below the national average.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader M K Stalin criticised the Tamil Nadu government led by C Joseph Vijay on Monday, alleging that the state's economic progress has stalled. According to reports from The News Mill and ANI, Stalin claimed the state's growth has been buried under the current administration.
Stalin stated on X that Tamil Nadu's GST revenue growth has fallen below the national average. He also alleged that Korean investments worth ₹1,614 crore, which were intended for the state, were redirected to Andhra Pradesh due to government negligence.
The DMK chief further claimed that the state investment agency, Guidance Tamil Nadu, has been compromised by internal disagreements. He remarked that the administration has shifted into reverse gear across every sector.
DMK MLA Thangam Thenarasu noted that in October, Tamil Nadu recorded 3 per cent growth in GST revenue. He compared this to neighbouring states, stating Kerala grew by 23 per cent, Andhra Pradesh by 24 per cent, Karnataka by 18 per cent, and Telangana by 14 per cent.
Thenarasu said that while taxes on certain imported goods provided a modest increase in revenue, income from local production is declining. He urged the government to boost domestic manufacturing and reach new markets to improve the economy and job creation.
Separately, Stalin had criticised the government on October 30, alleging a breakdown in law and order and a lack of administrative control over safety concerns.
