Actor Shweta Tripathi explains why she and husband decided to remain child-free
The Mirzapur actor shared how her views on motherhood evolved after experiencing an unhealthy relationship and learning of her low fertility levels.
Actor Shweta Tripathi has shared how her views on parenthood changed over the years, leading her and her husband, Chaitanya Sharma, to decide to remain child-free, according to a Times of India report.
Speaking to Soha Ali Khan on the podcast All About Her, Tripathi said she once imagined becoming a mother and even pictured having two children. However, her perspective shifted after observing the responsibilities of motherhood and experiencing an unhealthy relationship.
Tripathi said the relationship made her question the unequal distribution of domestic and caregiving responsibilities between men and women. She stated she did not want to be the only person carrying the onus of taking care of a child, a house, and an adult child.
The actor also described being upset after learning her Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) levels were low. She said the news was a shock because she wanted the freedom to decide for herself whether she wanted a child, rather than having the choice taken away.
Tripathi, who married Chaitanya Sharma in June 2018, said the decision to not have children evolved over time through discussions with her husband. She noted that while she acknowledges the joy children bring, she and Sharma are happy with their decision.
The actor added that it is acceptable for women to choose their ambition, career, or personal life over motherhood.
