Private bus strike in Kerala called off after talks
Transport Minister C.P. John met with bus operators on Monday to resolve the protest regarding the Priyadarshini free travel scheme.
A private bus strike in Kerala, which was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, has been cancelled following discussions with Transport Minister C.P. John in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, according to The Hindu.
The protest was organised by a group of operators who claimed the government was indifferent to the bus industry after the launch of the ‘Priyadarshini’ free travel scheme.
The decision to end the agitation follows assurances from Minister John that the operators' demands will be looked at positively.
The strike was planned by a joint action committee that included the All Kerala Bus Operators’ Organisation, the Kerala Bus Transport Association, and the Kerala State Bus Operators’ Coordination Committee.
All organisations involved in the committee have now withdrawn from the planned strike.
