Kushinagar chief veterinary officer arrested for allegedly accepting bribe
Dr Shanti Prakash Dwivedi was caught red-handed while receiving Rs 30,000 from a farmer in Padrauna, according to The Times of India.
The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment arrested Kushinagar chief veterinary officer Dr Shanti Prakash Dwivedi on October 31 for allegedly accepting a bribe. The arrest took place at his office in Vikas Bhawan, Padrauna, when he was caught receiving cash from a farmer.
According to The Times of India, the complainant, Dinesh Kumar Gupta, sought benefits under the Uttar Pradesh government’s Mini Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana for the 2025-26 financial year. Gupta is a resident of Barwaraja Pakar village in Kushinagar district.
Vigilance officials stated that Dwivedi initially demanded Rs 50,000 to ensure the financial assistance was sanctioned and released. Gupta reportedly requested a reduction, after which Dwivedi allegedly agreed to accept Rs 30,000 as a minimum amount.
Gupta filed a written complaint with the superintendent of police of the Vigilance Establishment’s Gorakhpur unit. Following a preliminary verification that substantiated the allegations, a trap team from the Gorakhpur sector was formed.
The team intervened on October 31 as Gupta allegedly handed over the money. A case has been registered against Dwivedi, who is a native of Basti district, and further proceedings are underway.
