Police rescue 25 cattle being transported to Kerala for slaughter

The animals were intercepted near Maraimalai Nagar after a member of an animal care trust reported a leaking container truck.

Police rescued 25 cattle near Pazhavali, close to Maraimalai Nagar, on Saturday evening while they were allegedly being moved from Andhra Pradesh to Kerala for slaughter, according to The Hindu.

Sai Vignesh, president of Almighty Animal Care Trust, filed the complaint after noticing cow dung and urine leaking from a container truck near Maraimalai Nagar. He alerted the police using an emergency helpline.

The police chased and intercepted the vehicle near Pazhavali. The animals were found packed tightly inside the container with minimal room to stand, and several had sustained injuries.

The truck allegedly had no sufficient ventilation or supplies of food and water, and the animals' nose ropes were tied to the roof bars.

All 25 cattle were handed over to Gosamrakshana Gaushala for care and medical treatment. Mr. Vignesh has lodged a formal complaint seeking action against those responsible.
