Kerala CM orders cancellation of ₹1-crore Cliff House maintenance project
Chief Minister V D Satheesan has asked the Public Works Department Secretary for an urgent report regarding the unauthorised order.
Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) Secretary to immediately cancel an order for maintenance work worth more than ₹1 crore at Cliff House, his official residence, according to reports by Deccan Chronicle, The Hindu and Onmanorama.
The Chief Minister has requested an urgent report from the PWD Secretary to explain why the order was issued without notifying him or the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
The department explained that the order was issued as part of a safety audit that has been in progress since 2022.
Satheesan had previously instructed officials that no unnecessary construction or beautification activities should take place at the residence once the government assumed power.
The Chief Minister had also specified that no work should proceed based on estimates from the previous government's tenure, stating that only essential renovations should be performed.
The PWD Secretary must now provide an explanation for issuing the order despite these standing instructions.
