Three Karnataka SIT officers receive Union Home Minister’s medal

The officers were honoured for their role in investigating sexual assault cases involving former MP Prajwal Revanna.

Three officers from the Karnataka Special Investigation Team (SIT) have been awarded the 2026 Union Home Minister’s Commendation Medal for their work investigating rape cases against former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, according to The News Mill.

Karnataka Cabinet Minister Priyank Kharge congratulated Inspector Shobha N, Assistant Sub-Inspector K Ratnamma, and Head Constable Y Balakrishna for their roles in the investigation. The SIT-CID team was led by senior IPS officer BK Singh.

Kharge stated on X that the SIT team played a crucial role by conducting the investigation without yielding to influence or pressure. He noted that the award ensures charges were supported by evidence in court.

The award was presented to seven individuals in total, including six Karnataka police officers and one officer from the Forensic Science Laboratory. Kharge emphasised that the honour was conferred by the central government rather than the state government.

The investigation into Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, contributed to his conviction in one case. In August 2025, a Special Court for People’s Representatives convicted Revanna of raping a domestic worker at a farmhouse in Hassan district's Holenarasipura.

Revanna was sentenced to life imprisonment on August 2, 2025.
