Delhi Police arrest five for Rs 10 crore cyber fraud network
The investigation into a Rs 2.21 lakh credit card fraud uncovered a phishing operation linked to 544 complaints.
The Delhi Police South-West District Cyber Police Station has arrested five individuals for their alleged involvement in an organised cyber fraud network. According to The Pioneer and The Hawk, the network is linked to 544 complaints on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) involving more than Rs 10 crore.
The investigation started after a man lost Rs 2.21 lakh from his credit card in November 2025 after clicking a fraudulent link in an SMS regarding a traffic challan payment. Technical analysis traced the activity to a mobile phone belonging to a student, which contained an application called 'Wingo Cash'.
Police said the application was received through a WhatsApp group and offered users incentives of Rs 1 to Rs 3 per redemption. When users redeemed rewards, the app allegedly locked the mobile screen for 30 seconds and automatically sent between 9 and 12 phishing SMS messages. These messages impersonated traffic challan payments, delivery verification, and reward points.
Investigators traced the money to an account with the National Bank of Kuwait and an account under Shree Balaji Enterprises, Mumbai. Police alleged that approximately Rs 2 crore was transferred to over 41,000 application users within three days.
The arrested individuals are Moti Singh Baghela, Harshpal, Vicky, Vishal Das Vaishnav, and Barjesh Kumar. They were apprehended during raids in Mumbai, Lucknow, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Punjab.
Authorities seized 15 digital devices, 59 debit cards, 52 passbooks and cheque books, 14 company stamps, five point-of-sale machines, eight QR-code scanners, a gold chain, and a car. Further investigation is underway.
