Hair donation drive held at Chennai institute for cancer patients

The event aimed to collect hair from 800 donors to create wigs for those undergoing chemotherapy and other cancer treatments.

The National Service Scheme unit of Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER) organised a hair donation drive on Monday in Chennai. According to The Hindu, the initiative was held to assist cancer patients who experience hair loss during their medical treatments.

The drive was conducted in partnership with the Adyar Cancer Institute, Hair for Hope India, and Ladies Circle India. Organisers intended to gather hair from 800 donors to attempt a world record.

Film producer and director Soundarya Rajinikanth inaugurated the event. She requested media coverage to highlight the difficulties cancer patients face and how losing hair affects their confidence.

The collected hair will be used to manufacture wigs for patients receiving chemotherapy or other cancer-related therapies.

SRIHER Chancellor V.R. Venkatachalam, trustee Samyuktha Venkatachalam, and dean K. Balaji Singh were present at the event along with representatives from the partner organisations.
