Neurologist warns of stroke signs that can affect any age group

Recognising early warning signs like speech slurs or facial drooping can improve survival and long-term recovery, according to a specialist.

Neurologist Dr Kamal Nagar of Narayana Hospital, Ahmedabad, has stated that strokes can occur in people of any age, rather than just older adults, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

Dr Nagar told Health Shots that early warning signs are often mistaken for temporary fatigue, dizziness, or weakness, which can lead to delays in receiving life-saving treatment.

A stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bursts or when a clot prevents blood flow, leading to the death of brain cells due to lack of oxygen.

The B.E. F.A.S.T. method can help identify symptoms, including balance issues, vision changes, facial drooping, arm weakness or numbness, and speech difficulties.

Other possible symptoms include sudden severe headaches or confusion, and medical evaluation is required even if these signs disappear after a minute.

Treatment depends on whether the stroke involves bleeding or a blockage, as determined by brain imaging like an MRI or CT scan.

Risk factors include high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, tobacco use, and lack of exercise, though regular check-ups and healthy habits can help lower risk.
